Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory ins now fully available on Blu Ray in Japan. Here are some comparison shots from the BluRay and TV version. In general the BluRay image is slightly darker than the TV version and looks sharper due to less compression. Major changes were made to episode 6, 8, 9, 10 and 12 with some smaller changes done throughout the season. This list is incomplete as there are many more shots that were also improved. Whenever there is a new shot it usually replaces one that was already used at a different point of that episode.
Most of the changes in episode 6 are on Sousuke Sagara. The clouds in the Nami shower scene were removed.
Episode 8The beginning of episode 8 was rearranged. Previously we saw Nami die twice. Now it's just one action. Kuruma shoots, she dies. The zoom on one of the shots was also changed. A color change was made to the uniform of one of the mercenaries to fit with continuity. Many missing character shots were added to the Kuruma-Sousuke fight towards the end. Blood was added and smoke was improved. One scene got additional character motion on Sousuke. An image error was corrected.
Episode 9Most of the warehouse scene was reworked and many shots were added throughout the episode. Kurz Weber now uses his rifle appropriately. Lemons animations were also redone.
Episode 10By far the most improvements were made on episode 10. Sousuke Sagaras animations were reworked almost entirely. Almost every Tessa scene was redone. Kaname was improved and got some additional shots in the pool scene. Hunter, Mira, Wraith and Kalinin all got some improvements as well.
Episode 11Like i said, there's only a few changes to the other episodes. I noticed this one in episode 11. Likely to fix continuity. There are many of these smaller changes done throughout the series.
Episode 12Many unexpected changes were made in episode 12. Kaname got new animations in the gun scene. Almost all of Sousuke Sagaras cockpit scenes were redone. Kalinin was improved in the Helicopter scene. Tessa, Kurz, Mao and Belfangan got improved in the final TDD-1 scene.
Besides these, many more scenes were improved. Sound effects were supposedly also improved, but i have no comparisons for that. There also may have been some changes on the soundtrack, but i can't confirm those either.
There will be a Full Metal Panic! panel at Fantasia Festival 2018 on October 21 with Shoji Gatoh and other FMP!4 staff members attending. It is highly likely that this is where they will talk about the future of FMP Anime. So ... see you in 3 weeks?
